Tara and Lane's E-session in St. Augustine.

Lane proposed to Tara in Saint Augustine. His original plans of proposing at the Lighthouse had to change because Tara was starving and ready for dinner. =) He decided to pop the question at the fort istead. Apparently the sprinklers turned on during the propsal!!! Obviously St. Aug is an important place to them so that's where they chose to do their Engagement Session. We had such a great time wandering the streets. They will be married on the beach in April. Can't wait!

Here are a few pages from Jes and Tyler's wedding album. The album is gorgeous, but I just had to share a few pages.
They were married at Casa Marina in Jax Beach on the weekend the Blue Angels were in town. I stepped outside for a few to grab some shots. Low and behold, at that moment the angels made a heart. I love that Jes included in her album selection.

I love adding text from their day. This is a page that shows some of their ceremony photos as well as readings.

My future in laws were so special sweet to me over Christmas. It was the my first Christmas away from my family, but Brent's family bent over backwards to make it special for us. I have always LOVED Momma Propst's watch so she gave one for Christmas. Unfortunately it didn't work so we had to send it back. I got mine in the mail today!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do your homework when choosing a wedding photographer!

I'm about to go on a rant here (which I try to NEVER do on my blog...but this is very necessary)

I'm hearing so many horror stories lately of wedding photographers (even one that was drunk and got arrested at a wedding last weekend!!!) so I finally decided to blog about it. Number one rule that we all know in life is..."You get what you pay for". If someone charges half what the market is, there's a reason for it. If they are "giving away the farm" in order to get your business, that's a huge red flag! People are always going to charge as much as they can for their product based on competition, craft, equipment, longevity in the industry, reputation etc. It's simple supply and demand that we all learned in economics. However, with this economy and people losing their jobs, it seems that everyone has become a photographer as their backup plan. I actually read a blog last week of someone suggesting looking on Craigslist to find a wedding photographer. WOW!

So here are some things to consider...coming from me, a person on the other side that has been in this business a long time. We all see a LOT of people come and go out of this business every year. For you that means if they are new to the biz...they may not be sticking around for long. You just better get ALL your goods and services from them AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This is actually a big deal right now. Companies are pricing their packages really low because they are having a hard time finding work, and then they can't pay their vendors and end up going upside down in business.. Our local news station did a story on this about 6 months ago. One of our well known local photographers was not providing the couples with their album. Some had waited almost 2 years for it!

So what can you do to make sure this doesn't happen to you?
1: Make sure your photographer is a part of an organization. They will back you should you ever need anything. (Our local org is http://www.ppsnf.org/)
2: Google them. No news is good news, but if you see any negative feedback, follow it up! You do not want to have to beg to get your images and album from your photographer.
3: Ask to speak with several of their clients. Brides are very honest (which I LOVE!) so just ask them.
4: Ask other photographers! People ask me about other photographers all the time. We have a TON of really amazing, very talented photographers here. But we also have people that you should steer clear of. So just ask around.

And as a followup, I'm going to leave you with this article one of my fellow photographers had on their facebook this week. It's a story about a photographer going to prison for not providing couples with their images. This is a real situation that is becoming more and more common. Scary but unfortunately true.

We all know that I'm a workaholic (I'm trying to get better). But Brent's family was in town this week staying with me so I really tried to work as little as possible. We had SUCH an amazing week, and we got some really great pics.
This day we went to the park. They came from a snow storm in NC, and we were hoping for some warm Florida weather... Didn't really happen. Bet we still went down to the park even though it was 40 below.

Mom begs me to come home for the weekend here and there, but of course I spend my weekends at weddings and sessions. I was able to move some things around (thanks to one of my awesome brides that was totally cool in letting us push an E-sesh to next weekend...seriously, I have THE best couples!) We took a drive to see how high the river is there, so I had to get a few shots of an old bridge.

Christa and Kyle are so fun. Christa is a nurse, and she had just worked 4 twelve our shifts back to back. She had gotten about 3 hours sleep before this shoot, but she is such a great sport. Kyle is a goof ball and together they are just so cute and fun. We had all heard that "tick tock on the clock, but the party don't stop" song so it was stuck in our heads. So, Kyle would take it away with the "oh, oh oh, oh, oh!" in that high pitched girl singing sound. Oh my gosh, we died laughing at him!

I took some pictures of Brent surfing when Hurrican Bill came through over the summer. He made mention that he loved one of the pics and wished he could have a bigger version of it (I think he meant like an 8x10 or so). I had this 24x36 mat board picture done for him which he LOVED!

So, I'm a little late in posting this. These two were married Thanksgiving weekend, but I was so slammed...it was hard to post everything. So here they are...better late than never I say! =)
Michelle is one of my sweetest brides. All of the staff at QH even commented on what a joy it was to work with her. It was such a moving day filled with lots of tears of joy and of course lots of love.

For the last dance, the dj cleared the room for them to have a dance all to themself. It was such a magical moment.

If you're debating big sparklers for your exit...DON'T DO IT! LOL

Alchohol and sparklers never mix well.

I love playing around with colors and stepping outside of the box. This company has the smallest cut down the center which I love. Panaramas are amazing in these styles of albums but only when the seam is small enough to not break up the pages.

Valentine's Day Photoshoot Special

I'm still recovering from being SLAMMED from the Christmas Holiday Shoot promo we did...so I'm only taking a few of these V-Day shoots. I added in a little note about active military folks. This is a super special thing to send to a hunsband overseas. Let me be clear about these shoots, they are done very professonally and classy. I'm a huge advocate of the boudoir sessions, and I think every woman should do one...for herself and husband/future husband. Every man will admit that this is one of the best gifts they could ever get from their lady!

This is such an exciting post for me. I obviously see a TON of couples and get to be apart of so many love stories...which I LOVE! But over this holiday season, two very special people to me got engaged. I met Angela and Jerry through my church last year. When we all first met, they were just best friends. They are both runners and met through UNF running activities. After a couple months of knowing them, my big mouth said, "Did you guys EVER date or have you just always been best friends?" She grinned and looked at Jerry, and they told us that day that they had decided to officially date the night before. Angela went back home to Jersey for the holidays, and to her surprise Jerry flew out to meet her the day before New Year's Eve. Her entire family was together the next night for New Year's Eve dinner in one of their local favorite restaurants. Angela's dad asked Jerry to give thanks for their meal. As Jerry prayed...giving thanks for family,special times, etc., he also thanked God for bringing Angela into his life, and he also asked God for help and encouragement for what he was about to do (obviously by this point she was very confused!)...and he got down on his knee. He asked, and she said "Yes!". Awe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They actually picked out their reception location (which as you know is a HUGE decision!), and they chose the White Room in St. Aug. They are getting married in our church - Beach United Methodist Church in Jax Beach. I keep trying to tell them about a fab photographer... =) I'll keep you posted as their wedding plans unfold.

Tips for the Bridal Shows.

Okay so here are my tips that I've gathered through the years:

#1. Try very hard not to be overwhelmed:
I know it's like taking a wedding drug that throws you all out of whack and it's hard to even comprehend what's going on. (if this is your first one, you'll know what I'm talking about once you experience it) But just try to soak it all in and have fun. It's all about you and your wedding so just have FUN.

#2. Make a girl day out of it:
Get your closest girls, mom , and even grandmother. It makes for a nice time of just being with the girls, and it helps to get them stoked about your wedding too. Oh, and wear comfy shoes...it's hours of standing and walking.

#3. If you really want your guy to go, let him hang by the bar first. This is so not a guy event, and he'll need a little something to dull the pain.

#4. Eat as much wedding cake as possible. Even if you already know what bakery you are using for the wedding, eat the cake. It's all amazing, and it's only one day's worth of extra sugar and calories. PS- Go find Chef Paul...Signature cakes by Paul. You will get to taste a little slice of heaven.

#5. Make labels with your name, address, phone number, email, and wedding date on them. That way, you can sign up for all the giveaways without having to sit and write it all down a million times. I know it's a little odd to give out that personal info, but there is SO much given away that day so you don't want to miss out.

#6. Bring a notebook, pen and camera. You will meet a TON of vendors. Write down the vendor names you are interested in and just a couple words to jog your memory about them. Trust me, when the day is over and it's you sitting alone with your bag full of cards, brochures, and goodies...it will be a blur and seem like a dream. Some brides even go as far to snap a pic of their favorite vendors so they will remember who is who. We don't think it's crazy...I personally love getting my pic with potential cleints.

And those are my tips for bridal shows. Hope you have a great time at the show!!

Albums and Ideas

One of the most popular album types right now is the coffee table book with the metalic paper. There is no imagining these things without seeing in person. The paper is very thick and shiny. It definitely brings out the photos and sets the album a step above the norm. This particular album company gives a ton of options for the cover. The one pictured is metalic, but of course you can do your classic leather.

Want a small album for your purse or gifts for parents? These 4x5 albums are SO adorable!!! I always offer these to my clients as a more affordable way to have parent's albums. But they are also cute to have for yourself too!

And then of course you can't forget your thank you card. This is such a personal way to say thank you to your wedding guests for attending your special day. Options for these cards are endless. You can do a postcard and just write on the back. Pictured is a folded card with a blank inside. Save the dates can also be done this way...or you can go with the traditional magnet.

Carrie and Adam Wedding - Casa Marina Jax Beach 01-01-10

What better way to start off the new year but with a wedding! Carrie and Adam were married at Casa Marina on New Years Day, and it was SO COLD and wet from raining all morning. I was stoked when she said she was braving the weather to get those beach pictures she had been planning for! Congrats to you two!!!

Val's Maternity shoot

Val is due in about a week and a half and definitely has that glow. I really love for sessions to be as close to 'real life' as possible so it was fun to do these in their home and around their own things. We had such a great time, and I can't wait to take pictures of their new little one in a few weeks. =)

Andrea's Family Photos at Guana State Park, Ponte Vedra Beach

I met Andrea at Jennifer and Brian's wedding. She called and wanted some non-traditional family photos. Of course I was stoked b/c I love to be creative to just shoot in the moment. She is going to pick a family shot and a close up of each kid to make a 16x16 canvas of each for their livingroom. This was also a special shoot because it's her and her husband's 10 year anniversery coming up. Congrats you two. You were so much fun and have beautiful, FUN kids.

I love hanging with families of kids this age. They always tell the most interesting and embarrassing stories about their parents! =)

I like to get little details of kids. This wil be important 15 years from now when they look back and see their little feet. Dad said, "Don't you dare take a picture of MY feet!!!"

Sally and Andy are married! The Winterbourne

It poured rain the ENTIRE day. Generally speaking, if there is bad weather...there's going to be an unhappy bride. But, thankfully, Sally was way cool. She was just like, "oh well...can't do anything to change it. And at the end of this day, I'm marrying the man of my dreams...so bring it on!" She was so laid back. The change in routine and being stuck indoors did allow us to be more creative inside. We had to work with what we had, but the Winterbourne is beautiful inside and out. Also, can I just say that Candice and the whole staff really busted their rears to get everything set up inside. They really went above and beyond...and FAST! All in all, it was a beautiful day.

This is just a sneak...but here ya go.

Okay so this is a very special post for me. Because of my schedule, I don't get to see my family as often as I would like. One of my sisters lives down south with her husband and little ones, and the rest of my fam lives about an hour and a half away from Jax. I obviously work weekends when they are all off work...so rarely do our schedules coincide to where we can hang. But I actually took off this Thanksgiving. I love my family so much, and I'm so proud of everyone. So here we all are...well, our immediate fam. We have a HUGE extended family.

So from left to right is my bro in law, Bryan. He is holding their youngest, Braxton. My oldest sis, Michelle, is next to him, and Brayden is looking up to her. He is their middle child, and Brynna is in front of him. Brynna is their oldest. I put the camera on a ladder and set the timer so there's no one standing over there yelling and screaming for the kids to look...which is why we ended up with this pose. LOL But it's better than nothing right? So, next is my mom and dad. They have been married something like 38 years or so. They are Wayne and Susie. My middle sis is next to them. Her name is Jaime, and her son is Alex...in front of her. Alex spends his summers here in Jax with me so some of you may recognize him. And next to them is Brent, my sweet honey...and then there is me. And that's us!

So to break it all down...again! (yes, I am showing them off!)

And then there's Brent and I. He doesn't like this picture b/c he said his leg looks broken, and then I of course always hate my hair. I have a big poof ball until I've slept on it for 2 days to push it down to my head. Bent and I met over a year and a half ago and became best friends pretty quickly. We stayed 'just friend's for over a year until he finally talked me in to dating (hahaha, he's so going to kill me for saying that!). I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to fall in love with my best friend. It takes a special kind of person to put up with me and my work. It's not always easy, but we're always there for each other. I love him with all my heart.

I loved getting out of town for this shoot...and being somewhere completely different than Jax. I've known Becky since high school so of course this was a special treat to be meeting her husband and taking her maternity photos. Randy was your typical guy being dragged to a photo shoot. I believe his introduction of himself was immediately followed by him saying, "How long is this going to take?" LOL That is so typical. I have never met a guy that was stoked about getting pictures done. But, we made it through and had a great time...and he might kill me for saying this, but by the end of it he even said it was FUN. Thanks for letting me be a part of this special time in your life. I can't wait to meet little Mr. Mason.

I've been dying to post these. We did this session over a month ago, and she was finally married last Saturday. Michelle is such a beautiful bride. She's been such a pleasure to get to know. Luckily we had a beautiful evening to do her session. Every couple minutes a gust of wind would blow by so we would throw the veil to catch it in the wind. So gorgeous!

It's all about girl time! Remember what it was like to be their age...Oh those were the days. We went for a little visit to Mandarin Park to shoot some photos for their Christmas cards. The girls were so much fun, and I was even invited to be their new babysitter. I think that has been the highlight of my month! =) Thanks for letting me hang with you, girls. Kelly is a fellow photographer that I met a year ago. We swapped equipment and technique info and got to know each other...and eventually met for lunch. We've been friends ever since. I was excited and NERVOUS when she asked me to do their family portaits. Taking pictures for a photographer just puts the pressure on =) We had a great time playing in the sand and watching the surfers.

I have only barely begun to start going through these so this is a very select few that I just grabbed off the top. Jessica and Tyler were married at the Casa Marina in Jax Beach last Saturday. If you remember, the air show was at the beach all weekend so it was CROWDED!!! But it was beautiful weather, their families all had a glow, and Jess and Tyler were just perfect. Congrats you two =)

Monica and Terron both live in Chicago. Last December, Terron took Monica to dinner at Kres in Orlando. After dinner, they took dessert to a park down the street to play scrabble. They are huge scrabble players and according to Monica, she always wins! =) Nevertheless, he spelled out his proposal, and she said yes. Congrats you two. I can't wait for the wedding...

The pictures are so much more than what I could have even hoped for or even imagined. It's funny seeing ourselves in these pictures because we have been viewing everyone else's pictures since we became engaged and now we get to see our own. I could be a little biased, but I think that these are the best engagement pictures EVER! (lol)

PS- I've always said that I recommend every woman to do a shoot like this at some point in life. It's a great gift for a husband, but it's also great for a woman to see just how sexy she really is. We girls are so hard on ourselves, and this type of shoot lets you really see yourself in a different light.

Tricshone and Dion are one of my couples from several years ago. I was absolutely thrilled when Tricshone called to schedule her pregnancy photos! This was the first official wedding for the Mansion in Hilliard which is owned by the bride's family. It's such a beautiful location, and has a TON of places for photos. It rained on us about 4 different times this day, but luckily there were several covered areas that were just as beautiful for photos. Mallory and Bo are so sweet and so in love...and this day was just amazing. Everyone had such a great time. Congrats you two...and may he always move you like the first dance :)

I met Cibelle and David many years ago when a wedding company I was working for shot their wedding. It was really neat to hear from them years down the road and see how their family had grown. Ethan was born three months ago, and he's such a cutie pie. For family stuff, especially babies, I really prefer to go to their home. I want to capture the interaction between mom, dad, and baby; and I love having all their personal things around...his blankets, nursery, etc. They'll outgrow this house soon so it will be nice to look back at these photos and remember their first home together and Ethan's first home.

First of all, where does the time go? And I would like to add that I don't feel a day older than when she was born :-) . For Brynna's birthday (Brynna is my niece...I have 1 niece and 3 nephews...), we all went to Disney where she was able to visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for her princess makeover. She LOVES anything princess related so this truly was a dream come true for her.

Michelle and I really hit it off from the first time we met. She's such a super sweet girl and found an amazing man to share her life with. Oh, and she is a Die Hard Florida GATOR!!! In fact, during the reception, people would randomly announce the score of the Florida/Kentucky game (which is pretty standard among Southern, Saturday weddings). But, when it was announced that Tebow had just been hurt, the entire reception stopped and there was a hush in the room. I am not kidding! But outside of the Tebow incident, the day couldn't have not been more perfect. Congrats you two!!!! xoxoxoxo

I do keep in touch with the majority of my couples so I get to witness first hand just how great...and hard marriage really is (especially those first years). We just finished up a series at church called "The Flame Series", and it's all about family and marriage stuff. Don't worry, it's not 'churchy' even though it's church...and I promise you'll be able to take something from it.

There were lots of great vendors, tons of great food, and amazing wedding cake.

Here's a little snip it of a video to get you all excited for Sunday's bridal show at World Golf. If you need to tickets, I still have a few. I'll be giving away a photo session and picture package so stop by our booth to sign up for that. We are right at the second entrance so come on over.

#1. Try very hard not to be overwhelmed. I know it's like taking a wedding drug that throws you all out of whack and it's hard to even comprehend what's going on. But just try to soak it all in and have fun. It's all about you and your wedding so just have FUN.

#2. Make a girl day out of it. Get your closest girls, mom , and even grandmother. It makes for a nice time of just being with the girls, and it helps to get them stoked about your wedding too.

#3. If you really want your guy to go, let him hang by the bar first. This is so not a guy event, and he'll need a little something to dull the pain.

#4. Eat as much wedding cake as possible. Even if you already know what bakery you are using for the wedding, eat the cake. It's all amazing, and it's only one day's worth of extra sugar and calories.

#5. Make labels with your name, address, phone number, email, and wedding date on them. That way, you can sign up for all the giveaways without having to sit and write it all down a million times.

#6. Bring a notebook and pen. You will meet a TON of vendors. Write down the vendor names you are interested in and just a couple words to jog your memory about them. Trust me, when the day is over and it's you sitting alone with your bag full of cards, brochures, and goodies...it will be a blur and seem like a dream.

I do LOVE to surf, but the predicted "double overhead" waves kept me out of the water this weekend and behind the camera where I belong. These waves were the biggest I had ever seen in real life. When the wave would curl over and hit the ocean, it was SO loud. I stood on the pier to photograph, and you could literally feel the wind coming from the wave as it curled over. SO AMAZING!

One of my sisters lives about 5 hours away and was passing through Gainesville so we all met to see each other. Rarely is all of my immediate family together so of course I brought a camera. I am so blessed with such an amazing family.

These are all my nephews and niece. The oldest is Alex, who is 11 and my middle sister's kid. Then there is Brynna who is 3, Brayden who is 2, and Braxton is about 6 months. They are my oldest sister's kids.

This is Brynna, Brax, and Bray. Brothers and sister. I get teared up every time I look through these pictures.

My oldest sister, Michelle, with Brynna. Since there are 3 sisters in my family, we really wanted Brynna to have a sister as well. Nope, she got 2 brothers who I'm sure will gang up on her in a couple years. Brynna insisted we take this picture. This is a child that has always screamed and cried when I tried to take pictures of her. She posed for this all on her own.

This is my fam! From left to right - my middle sister Jaime, her son Alex, mom, dad, Michelle is holding Brynna, Bryan (my bro in law) who is holding Braxton, and me holding Brayden. We literally had to take around 25 pictures, and this is the best we could get. I always tell them they are 10 times worse than any family I've ever shot. They won't shut up and smile for 10 seconds so we can get done.

The sisters. We all live in separate towns and live very busy lives but are still very tight. I love them to pieces. My sisters were straight A students. Jaime is an RN for Hospice and Michelle is a CPA. I've always been the creative one of the family :) Not so straight A.

Susan is one of the most laid back brides I've ever worked with. Some couples really stand out b/c they don't leave each other's side and they don't stop cuddling and kissing. Susan and Kurk were definitely in that category. After cake feeding and even during fast dancing, he would hold her face and kiss her so sweetly and not let go. They are just that sweet.

Often times during the couple's formals, I pose them and say 'just be' and act like I'm changing batteries or something. I love the photos where they just seem in the moment. It's like I'm not even there. It's definitely an art to get people in a beautiful positions, giving instruction, but letting them feel like they are alone in a room, just being in a moment.

A beautiful cake...and delicious! One of my favorite parts of the night! :)

The last dance

Susan and Kurk had their reception at the Tasting Room in St. Aug. It was my first visit to the Tasting Room and can I just say, I was so impressed. The food was out of this world, and the staff was over the top. Rose of Sharon Jacksonville was the florist (I am a huge fan of theirs!) and McGee Engeterainment was our dj (also a great choice). It truely was a perfect night.

We started at Jax Beach pier, but summer is in full swing and the beach was packed! I like to do sessions in the evening so the sun isn't too bright...who would ever thought there would still be people hanging on the beach at 7pm! We just moved locations and still had a great time. Jana and Brendon had some more great news to tell me...they are always full of surprises! I honestly have the BEST job ever!
